A Pavilion Shaped by Light and Land

Designed by New Zealand architect Regan Johnston, D&D Lodge is a modern pavilion-style retreat that sits quietly within the Central Otago landscape. High vaulted ceilings and an open-plan layout create a strong sense of space, light and flow, while expansive glazing frames uninterrupted mountain views in every direction.

The architecture is intentionally understated. Materials, proportions and finishes have been chosen to complement the land rather than compete with it, allowing the surrounding landscape to remain the hero.

Outdoor spaces

Open Air, Open Views

The Lodge opens seamlessly to a series of outdoor spaces designed for relaxation and connection with the landscape. Sheltered decks, outdoor seating and a fire pit offer places to gather, dine or simply take in the views as the light shifts across the hills.

Set on a large private property, guests are free to explore walking tracks that weave through historic gold-mining features and open terrain. Whether you are enjoying a quiet morning coffee outside or an evening by the fire under the stars, the outdoor spaces feel private, expansive and unhurried.

Views & setting

Framed by Mountain Ranges

From its elevated position on Earnscleugh Ridge, D&D Lodge enjoys sweeping views across the Old Man, Cairnmuir, Dunstan and Hawkdun Ranges. Seasonal light transforms the landscape throughout the day, from crisp mornings to long golden evenings.

Each season brings its own character, from summer’s warm evenings and clear skies to winter days framed by snow-dusted peaks. The setting is both dramatic and deeply calming, offering a strong sense of peace year round.

Trails & terrain

The Ideal Base for Outdoor Adventurers

D&D Lodge is exceptionally well suited to cyclists and outdoor adventurers. You can quite literally roll down the driveway and begin riding, with easy access to the Otago Central Rail Trail, Dunstan Trail and Roxburgh Gorge Trail.

The Lodge offers secure garage storage for bikes and equipment, charging facilities, and space to organise gear after a day on the trails. It also provides convenient vehicle access for trail drop-offs and pick-ups, making it an ideal base for both single-day rides and multi-day adventures.

Beyond cycling, the Lodge is perfectly positioned for hiking, fishing, skiing, lake activities and back-country exploration across Central Otago.
